Disrupting Humanity (2011)

I ständig pendling mellan kaos och ordning uppstår det intressanta livet. Människan vill både förstå och undra, skapa och förstöra. När blir en allt mer systematiserad värld alltför arrangerad för att utgöra en intressant spelplan för livet? Vid vilken tidpunkt måste vi skapa kaos för att finna ny mening?

Med Disrupting Humanity fortsätter Erik Modig att utveckla sitt måleri i en neo expressionistisk anda, där en till synes organiserad och harmonisk verklighet störs av levande färger och former. I en blandning mellan abstraktion och fotorealism, där tid och rum är svårt att definiera, får betraktaren vandra mellan lager av olika tekniker och tolkningar.

Konst möter Mode (2010)

Under sommaren 2010 arbetade jag tillsammans med konstnärerna Johan Lindvall och Cecilia Bivald i ett gemensamt projekt. Tillsammans skapade vi 18 tavlor på temat konst möter mode. Verken visade i en utställningslokal i GALLERIAN mellan 16 juli - 1 augusti.

Konstnärerna Erik Modig, Johan Lindvall och Cecilia Bivald tar sig gemensamt an förhållandet mellan konst och mode. Tillsammans, genom att alla tre målar på samma dukar, undersöker de likheter, skillnader och kontraster. Kan de två världarna och de tre konstnärerna förenas i ett uttryck? På 18 dukar ,varje 180*180 cm, låter de modevärldens symboler och karaktärsdrag smyga sig in i konsten och förena sig med måleriet. En värld av estetik och mystik öppnar sig för betraktarna.

Speaking Through History (2008)

Two big oilpaintings finished during 2008.

The work with these two painting began as early as in 2005 as I spent my last days in Berlin streching a huge canvas - 200*200 cm. As a start and original theme I used three old photographs of my mother as a child (you can still see the three girls in the painting Speaking Through History). The painting were however never finished and got stored for about one year until I moved into my new studio, Art Concept Store, in the autumn of 2006. Again I streched the canvas and now it also got company (even though I was unaware of the connection at that time) A new canvas 130*170 cm was started with a sketch of an old man (from an ancient sculpture I once saw in the Vatican) in front of a brown background. During one year I battled with these two canvases, adding more and more element on the two huge painting. However, it was not until the summer of 2008 as they got my full focus.

During this time I was thinking alot about what really forms us as human beeings.

This painting is about the journey through life. When I was young I always dreamt of beeing a superhero. I could spend days in my room, planning and imagining how life would be. How I would be. When you then grow older the dreams of becoming a superhero starts to fade away and turns into a vision of a hero - an ordinary man, but so much more. The question is if we ever take that chance of becoming a hero. Or if this also will fade away.
